Are You Breathing?

Breathing. Most of the time it is automatic and involuntary, so you might be surprised to know it could be contributing to your pain. Many people have altered or dysfunctional breathing patterns which manifest in neck pain, low back pain, headaches, decreased exercise tolerance, and even poor posture.

Controlled diaphragmatic breathing helps your body get the proper amount of oxygen for being active, promotes relaxation and stress relief, and can even help lower blood pressure. If you find yourself feeling tense or stressed, try taking 5 deep breaths in your nose and out your mouth. Keep your shoulders relaxed and focus on your stomach expanding as you inhale. You may be surprised at how good you feel!
