Knee Pain

The knee plays a crucial role in how we get around our home and community. Having pain in one or both of our knees can be very debilitating. There are many structures involved in the knee such as muscles, tendons, ligaments, veins, nerves, meniscus’, and bones. Knee pain can occur when any one or combination of these structures get inflamed and aggravated, or injured. The knee takes on a lot of force during our typical daily activities. Just during walking, our knee takes on the force of 2-3 times our body weight. A strong and healthy knee is more than capable of taking on the stress of our recreational activities. However, these forces combined with weakness or dysfunction can lead to injury; or cause pain even without a specific injury to the knee.

Common causes of knee pain
